Beginnings 1975-1978

The economic development of postwar Romania strongly imposed the industrial development and the total employment. That is why, because of the preponderance of the mining and heavy industry in Baia Mare, there felt an acute need of feminine employment. This fact generated the designing and the execution of enterprises with feminine activity profile. So, in 1974 the project of investment The ready-made clothing manufactory, CONFSTAR SA Baia Mare, under the direct coordination of the ready-made clothing manufactory MONDIALA, Satu Mare, gets approved.

The end of 1975 marks the closing of the period of labour qualification and coincides with the accomplishment of the construction and with its opening. That is how on December 15, 1975, the Romanian industry enriches with a new ready-made clothing manufactory and that is, CONFSTAR Baia Mare, with 1100 employees and a production destinated to the market fund and also to hesitating export trade attempts (in collaboration with the URSS). In 1978, 2 % of the volume of a 150 million lei production represents the export production.

Development 1978 – 1989

In 1980, once with the accomplishment of the investment in Sighetu Marmatiei, with approximately 800 employees and a production destinated both to the market fund and to the outward trade on the Eastern and Asian markets ( the URSS, Irak), there starts a period of development and increase of the production capacities. In 1985, in Baia Mare, begins the development of the new building wing intended both to the production and the preparation and formation of the lots.
By the end of 1989 the production level reaches 500 million, 13 % destinated to export and achieved with a number of about 2400 employees. The exported products arrived in the USA, the URSS, FRANCE, the GREAT BRITAIN, IRAK, LIBIA, ITALY, GERMANY, SWEDEN. Among the concerns with which we collaborated we can mention: PLAY-IT-AGAIN – USA, NAF NAF – FRANCE, INCOM – ITALY, STEILAMAN – GERMANY, HABITEX – BELGIUM, and so on. The product variety is very rich both as range of good and as textiles (trousers, dresses, skirts, shirts, jackets, blouses).

Transition 1990-1995

It is the moment when the manufactory in Sighetu Marmatiei separates from the SC CONFSTAR SA, and transforms itself in commercial society, thus reducing the production capacity of the society. The structure of the range of products changes, by the introduction of new ready-to-wear apparel products such as: suiting jackets, overcoats.
At the beginning of 1995, the entire production was intended to export trade, having as partner the HABITEX INTERNATIONAL concern, for which produced about 30.000 articles of ready-to-wear apparel / month with about 1700 employees. The export reaches 93 % of the total production of goods, of about 5,5 thousand million lei.

Private capital society from 1995

Just like other state enterprises, the SC CONFSTAR SA, starts the process of privatization. Benefiting by the provisions of the Law 53/1991 (Method M.E.B.O.), the employees decide to make an effort and to take over the company’s shares. The SC CONF STAR SA becomes one of the most important private enterprises in the whole region, with Romanian capital. On June 26, 1995, the enterprise becomes Commercial Society with private capital. The social capital topping 2,2 thousand million lei is bought by the 845 shareholders, employees of the society.
The society buys new special equipment such as: two sewing needle machines, buttonhole machines, automatic machines for the execution of pockets, machines for setting the sleeves, so on. Two finishing technological lines: Bryssai and Indupress, termofixing machines, automatic cutting tables, and also the technological designing system assisted on computer.
In 1997 the production capacity increases by another four working formations and a modern transport and storage system by the finishing of the COCO investment. Presently CONFSTAR SA produces very complex and varied ready-to-wear apparel. Between 2000 – 2005 CONFSTAR SA took the first places in the top of the regional concerns and in the national top.
In 1995, the society classified on the first place in the regional top of the very large enterprises, light industry, and occupied the second place in the textile domain.
